"Nueva ruta turística y arqueológica en Perú"

Today's article for Spanish students is about archeology and tourism, two subjects that have long been intertwined. Archeologists were some of the first tourists in Latin America, paving the way in the early twentieth century for what we today consider tourism. In an article from Argentina's La Nacion, tourism is supporting archeology. Pre-Columbia figures that were discovered in Peru ten years ago are being developed as a tourist destination. The hope is that the figures and other ruins will be able to lure tourists in the same way as Machu Pichu.

El gran crecimiento del turismo en América latina en los últimos años hizo que el gobierno de Perú desempolvara uno de los más recientes descubrimientos arqueológicos en el mundo para que miles de personas puedan disfrutar de un gran hallazgo que tuvo lugar hace una década.

Por ello, una nueva ruta turística se abrirá en el norte peruano en la que se podrá presenciar el avistamiento en los cerros de Lambayeque de geoglifos de 2500 años de antigüedad, que pertenecerían al período pre-Chavín.
